Strangling the Hope and Anchor

Fri, 11 March 2016, 4:35 pm: After the concert by Stranglers cover band Straighten Out in the basement, I rubbed elbows with fellow Stranglers obsessives on the pub’s street level.20160311_163519The Hope & Anchor is an institution here in Camden Town, but it’s modern and trendy enough to host an array of newfangled beers in addition to the standard bearers.20160311_154302Here’s a poster advertising the gig I just saw a few minutes ago.20160311_154318And a listing of the month’s gigs, including today’s.20160311_154324All of us here right now will be rocking out together in a few hours as The Stranglers themselves prowl the 02 Brixton Academy stage. This afternoon is a chance to whet our appetites with The Stranglers’ most popular tribute band and a few pints.20160311_164116I have the extreme pleasure of meeting in person two Stranglers super fans I’ve previously known only on the internet forums: Elvis in the Clouds and Bag Lady (not pictured). Not a lot of time to linger, though: I’ve gotta Tube it back to my hotel to grab my ticket for tonight’s show and then hustle back across town to the venue.
